Episode 78: The Sand Bar

Hello magical friends, and welcome to episode 78 of WZRD Radio! I’m your hostwitch Bess, and we’re back on schedule! (I hope, as I write this.)

August is a very exciting month with lots going on, so let’s get started!

This is Infusion of Wormwood and “Black Lake Rain.”

~*~

That was “Black Lake Rain” by Infusion of Wormwood, “Recital” by Mermaids Above Water, Hollow Godric with “Lakeside Friends” [lyrics], and Mudblud and “There’s Something Living in the Lake.

This month’s wandoscope is for magical friends who carry wands of sycamore.

Sycamore is famous for being an adventurous wood that occasionally bursts into flame if it gets bored. Luckily, it tends to match with wixen who are similarly curious and up for trying new things, so that doesn’t happen much.

Excellent news, sycamore wand: August is the perfect time to start a new adventure. Consider it a turning point, the moment when you begin a new branch in your path. A friend is going to bring up something you never considered before and open up this opportunity for change, and if you take the chance, I think you’ll have a lot of fun.

The next music break begins with “Ballad of the Squid” by Hogwarts Hotel.

~*~

That was Hogwarts Hotel and “Ballad of the Squid,” The Giant Squidstravaganza singing “Underwater,” and Draco and the Malfoys singing “Grindylow’s Garden” [lyrics].

There’s so much going on this month, magical friends! I hope I’ll see you all at some of these events:

Striking Down Diggory’s album release got bumped to this month, so keep an eye on them! [link]

The first weekend in August, the 4th-6th, is LeakyCon Chicago! I’ll be running a zine making workshop on Friday, as well as joining a panel on podcasting, and on Sunday I’ll be on The Weirdos Are Out’s panel on nerdy fiber arts. In between, I’ll probably be at the Wizarding Wireless Collective table talking about all my favorite podcasts and giving away goodies. See you all there! [link]

The 4th is also Harry Potter Night for the Minnesota Twins in Minneapolis, MN. [link]

Ft. Worth, TX is having a Harry Potter bar crawl on August 19th . [link]

An English school in Serra Verde, Brazil is having a Harry Potter in English weekend on August 26th, which sounds like the perfect way to learn a language. [link]

New England Wizardfest is back in Boxborough, MA August 25-27! [link]

And, most importantly of all, August is the last month that the Wizard Rock Sampler is open for submissions this year! It can be a brand new song, or something that came out in the last year. Let’s get creative, magical friends! [link]

As for the music that came out last month…

Sonorus realeased “The Vault,” a selection of compilation releases. [link]

Swell Rell collected his wrock songs into the “Potter Pack.” [link]

Dots and Lines released the Camp Wrock collection! [link]

Here’s our final music break! Dumbledork is opening, with “Call of the Grindylow.”

~*~

You just heard “Call of the Grindylow” by Dumbledork, “Magic by the Lake” from Foundation of Fair Fortune, The Sweetwater All-Stars and “Love Song for the Giant Squid,” and Mermanda with “The Sand Bar” [lyrics].
