Hello magical friends, and welcome to episode 84 of WZRD Radio. I’m your hostwitch Bess and wow that’s a big number. Look at us go!
Anyway, here’s the music, beginning with Marked As His Equal and “Important Lessons.”
~*~
That was “Important Lessons” by Marked As His Equal [lyrics], The Hinky Punks with “Gilderoy’s Locked Heart,” “Peskipiksi Pesternomi” from The Swedish Shortsnouts, and Weezard’s “Gilderoy is a Fraud.”
November’s wandoscope is for magical friends who carry wands of of walnut.
First of all, you share a wandwood with Bellatrix Lestrange. So that’s…interesting.
The good news is that walnut prefers its owner to be intelligent and innovative and will do anything you ask, making you a good team.
This month you’ve got to take some time to check in on your self-perception. Most of the year is safely in the bag, so what have you built up in yourself? Are you feeling competent? Defeated? Satisfied with what you’ve done? Near burnout? Whatever it is, take the time to do whatever you need to get yourself to a sustainable place. The world can wait.
Our next music section starts with The Bandon Banshees and “Magical Me.”
~*~
You just heard “Magical Me” from The Bandon Banshees, “Autographs and Rubbery Arms” by The First Task is Dragons, and The Valentine’s Dwarfs singing “Lockhart’s Got 46 Valentines.”
Before we get to events, I want to direct your attention to three fundraisers that directly affect members of our wizard rock community.
1) Kosmo Parker, also known as Kwikspell, is undergoing some really scary health issues. They’re fundraising to help pay for treatment as well as basic necessities like food and rent. [link]
2) Beloved wrocker Totally Knuts is raising funds to get top surgery! They’ve done so much for our community so I’m thrilled we can help support them in return. [link]
3) Wrock community creator, zine maker, and occasional Tonks and the Aurors merch tabler Claudia Morales lost her partner to senseless violence. I’ve included her Venmo account in the transcript as well as a P.O. box if you, like me, send snail mail. [link]
Claudia Morales Care Team
P.O. Box 9607
Providence, RI 02940
If you can, please donate or share these fundraisers to help cherished members of our wizard rock family.
And now, here’s what the fandom is up to during November.
The famous Hamburger Mary’s in Orlando, FL is hosting a “Drag-on Alley” dinner show on November 5th, a not-to-be-missed fandom celebration. [link]
The Okotoks Art Gallery in Okotoks, Canada is hosting an “Indigenous Beading: Harry Potter Keychains” workshop on November 7th, which sounds extremely cool. [link]
November 10th in Quincy, MI there’s going to be a Harry Potter murder mystery party, hosted by the local library. My bet is on Madam Pince. [link]
November 10-12 is Wondrous Wizard Weekend’s Merry Magical Market, an online celebration of fandom creators, featuring Tonks and the Aurors. [link]
If you’re in Ironton, OH November 11-12, you can check out the fifth annual Ironton Wizardfest! Chris Rankin will be there, and you know he’s always a party. [link]
If Farmville, VA is more your place on November 11-12, check out the Harry Potter Market Festival, with games and costumes encouraged. [link]
November 18th will see the second “Wizarding Weekend” at the Alkrington Community Centre in Middleton, UK with wand making and owls! [link]
And last month
Dream Quaffle gave us “Draco and the Medley.” [link]
And Potterwatch’s album “Follow the Light” released on Halloween! [link]
and this mysterious, anonymous wrock was released on AO3. [link]
As usual, all these events and more can be found on the Potterhead Calendar page of the website.
Now it’s time for our final music break, with The Whomping Willows and “Professor Lockhart? More Like Professor Lacks Heart.”
~*~
You just heard The Whomping Willows singing “Professor Lockhart? More Like Professor Lacks Heart!,” “Pixie Funk” from the Blibbering Humdingers, and “Magical Me” by The Quaffle Kids.
And that’s the end of our episode. I hope you heard a new song and found something fun to do this month.
