Episode 91: Wanderlust

Hello magical friends, and welcome to episode 91 of WZRD Radio. I’m your hostwitch Bess, and I just want to say happy anniversary! Can you believe WZRD is four years old?

I’ve got a few celebrations planned for the occasion. Some gifts, perhaps.

The first one is the Community Wrock Fund! With Yes All Witches going on hiatus, WZRD is proud to be launching our own program. Open to all wizard rockers both new and established, the Community Wrock Fund is a pool of money wrockers can apply to to help with their music. It’s available for any wrock-related need, including convention travel and recording equipment.

And if you want to help support the CWF, you can donate via paypal to WZRDRadioPod@gmail.com or by joining the WZRD Radio Patreon.

I am so excited to be starting this new project! You can find all the information on the Community Wrock Fund page of the WZRD Radio website, including the application form.

While you go check that all out, here’s “Wit Beyond Measure” by Ludo Bagman and the Trash.

That was “Wit Beyond Measure” from Ludo Bagman and the Trash, Dream Quaffle with “Rowena,” and Miranda Puffskein singing “Wit Beyond Measure.”

For our birthday shout-out I’d like to introduce you to The Gayly Prophet.

They’ve sinced moved on from Harry Potter, but their wit and insight into the series was truly something special. In the very first episode they pointed out that no one mentioned drinks on the Hogwarts Express, and I was hooked.

Between creating iconic queer fanon characters, opening important conversation with Harry Potter-adjacent creators like Chuck Tingle, and helping with important movements like the HBO, No! Campaign, Jessie and Lark have long been my guiding lights of how I want to move in this fandom space. And even though they’re off doing other things, all the materials they gave us, from the “Guide to Firing JKR” to the original run of The Gayly Prophet are still out there making the world a better place.

If you haven’t already, give them a listen.

Here’s our next music break! First up is Dots and Lines with “A Space for Eagles.”

Let’s see what’s going on in March, magical friends!

Kenosha, WI is having a Harry Potter night on March 2nd, featuring house trivia and specialty shots. [link]

Also on March 2nd Farmville, VA is going to be home to an entire Harry Potter themed market festival. It sounds like it’s going to be fun. [link]

March 8th is going to have a Wizarding Ball in Chicago, Il. It’s hosted by a dance school, so they’ll even teach you a few steps. [link]

If you’re in Juliaetta, ID March 14-17, then you’re just in time for Harry Potter Weekend! Events include an adoption event, potions lab, and Marauders’ scavenger hunt. [link]

The Bubbly Tart in Omaha, NE is hosting two weekends of wizard-themed teas and treats. [link]

and March 20-23rd in Prince Frederick, MD there’s a Harry Potter Week at Mully’s Brewery, with donations to the Maryland Foster Parent Association. [link]

As for what I missed last month…

February was a banner month for new wrock. In addition to Valenrhymes Day from Striking Down Diggory, Charlie Weasley’s Wedding from Dream Quaffle, and Muggle Snuggle and the Cuplets of Fire from Muggle Snuggle we got

TK’s TK: a Totally Knuts Tribute Album, which is raising funds for TK’s recent top surgery [link]

ERWA’s “Hoggy Warty Hogwarts” [link]

Dots and Lines also got a chorus together to tackle the Hogwarts school song, as it’s meant to be sung. [link]

And we got Daniel Kelly’s HuffGryffinClaw album! [link]

All these events, and more, can be found on the Potterhead Calendar page of the WZRD website.

Our final music break is here, and it begins with Muggle Death Camp and “The Crown of the Grey Lady.”

~*~

That was “The Crown of the Grey Lady” from Muggle Death Camp, “O.W.Ls” from the Moaning Myrtles, and “Wanderlust” by Miranda Puffskein.

And that’s our show! Happy four years, magical friends! I can’t wait to see what comes next.

If you heard your new favorite song, go to the transcript at WZRDRadioPod.com, follow the link, and buy yourself a copy. You’ll get a great new addition to your music collection and a wizard rocker will know they’ve got a fan. And you know what I always say: without our wizard rockers, we wouldn’t be here.

You can support WZRD and the Community Wrock Fund by joining the Patreon at  Patreon.com/WZRDRadioPod. There are two, five, and ten dollar tiers that all get the same perks, including early episodes and bonus content, and support the Fund in helping our wizard rockers get their music out there.

You can still guess this episode’s theme on  TwitterInstagramFacebook, or TikTok at WZRDRadioPod. You can also get in touch by commenting on the transcript or emailing me at WZRDRadioPod@gmail.com.

Until next time, magical friends: Same time, same place next week?
