Episode 95: The Year Harry Went Emo

Hello magical friends, and welcome to episode 95 of WZRD Radio! I’m your hostwitch Bess, and convention season is coming! I hope you’re getting ready. Cosplay? Wrock show? Fan art? Whatever it is, time to get hopping!

While you find your glue gun and guitar pick, here’s some music.

First up is the Butterbeer Experience and “The Weasley Way.”

~*~

That selection of songs was “The Weasley Way” by the Butterbeer Experience [lyrics], Percy and the Prefects singing “Lonely Valentine’s” [lyrics], and Siriusly Hazza P with “Grawp” [lyrics].

This month’s spotlight is courtsey of Creating Magic. Without them I might never have found Milton Mudblood.

This series of shorts follows Milton Mortimer the herbologist in his ongoing quest to evade bureaucracy and bring knowledge to everyone, magical and nonmagical alike. It’s so cozy and charming and a surprisingly quick watch, with only nine episodes that are under five minutes each.

If you’re a Great British Bake Off or Stardew Valley valley fan, Milton hits that same spot (although the fight against tyranny is always rough). So go check him out! [link]

Let’s hear a little more music. This is Split Seven Way’s “Done in by Curtains.”

~*~

You just heard “Done in by Curtains” by Split Seven Ways [lyrics], “Thestral’s Flight” by the Gryffindor Common Room Rejects [lyrics], and Kwikspell’s “Ode to Umbridge” [lyrics].

Here’s just some of what the fandom has going on this month, magical friends:

This one’s not strictly an event, but if you’d be interested in your wrock being used as outro music in some tiktok shorts, go let Spencer Holland know in the Wizard Rock Revival Facebook group. [link]

Don’t forget! Potted Potter is running through the 5th in Melbourne, Australia. [link]

If you’re in Noblesville, IN on May 3, go check out Tonks and the Aurors at Magic of the Square! [link]

Dream Quaffle has a single coming out, in advance of a full album! [link]

May 12th there will be a Harry Potter inspired tea in Telford, UK. [link]

Striking Down Diggory, who is on fire this year, has an album arriving this month as well. [link]

May 31st through June 2nd is Harry Potter Weekend at Kinney Lake Campground in Marion, WI. They’ll be watching the movies and hunting for horcruxes, which all sounds very fun. [link]

May 31st is also the last day to get your Cruciatus Curse cover in to Bisexual Harry for the 20th anniversary tribute album, so you better get on that. [link]

April’s Bertie Bott’s theme was “puns,” so if you’ve got a good one, go leave it in the comments! And check out what they’re looking for for May. [link]

You also still have time to get your song in for the 2024 Sampler! As long as it came out in the last year (or is brand new for the Sampler!) your song can be included. It’s the perfect time to try recording something silly. [link]

I don’t think I missed anything in April, but if I did let me know!

It’s time for the last bit of music this episode, beginning with Tianna and the Cliffhangers and “Muggle Suburbia.”

~*~

That was “Muggle Suburbia” by Tianna and the Cliffhangers [lyrics], “I Must Not Tell Lies” from the Blibbering Humdingers [lyrics], and “The Year Harry Went Emo” by Peeved [lyrics].

And another episode comes to a close. I hope you found something fun to do! And also that glue gun

Until next time, magical friends: What fun!
