Episode 97: Mother, Forgive Me

Hello magical friends, and welcome to episode 97 of WZRD Radio! I’m your hostwich Bess, and I’m so grateful to everyone who’s taken the time to leave a rating or review for WZRD. And if you haven’t yet, don’t worry; there’s still some time before we make it to the 100th episode, so review away!

And make sure you pay extra-special attention during the events round-up, because there’s one I’m particularly excited about!

First up, of course, is our music, lead by Peeved and “Expelliarmus Kid.”

~*~

That was “Expelliarmus Kid” by Peeved [lyrics], Tianna and the Cliffhangers with “Don’t Be A Stranger” [lyrics], and “Sour Grapes” by Split Seven Ways.

This month’s spotlight is on the Forbidden Forest Apothecary.

Like all the greatest fandom creators, their potions aren’t exclusively Harry Potter, but it’s all gorgeous. Whether you need a little dark magic for your potions lab or some liquid luck to brighten your day, this apothecary has you covered.

Each potion is hand-crafted by the head alchemist, so you’re guaranteed the best and freshest potion, with really beautiful finishes. [link]

All right, magical friends. I could use your help here in two ways:

First, what should I call this segment? Do you have a clever alliterative title? A pithy segment name? I need your ideas!

Second, what other fandom creators should I include in this shout out? Who deserves a little exra recognition for the magic they create? Leave a comment, or message me anywhere to shine a light on your favorites.

Gather your recommendations and send them to me while Room of Whateva serenades us with “Draco’s Master Plan.”

~*~

You just heard “Draco’s Master Plan” by Room of Whateva [lyrics], The Whomping Willow’s famous “In Which Draco and Harry Secretly Want to Make Out,” and “A Slytherin Point of View” from RiddleTM [lyrics].

Okay, big announcement time:

WZRD is putting on a wizard rock show! In real life! Here in Orlando!

November 2nd I’ve managed to convince Dream Quaffle, How Airplanes Fly, the Blibbering Humdingers, and Hawthorn & Holly to do a big show at a local venue. It’s going to be amazing, so I hope I get to see you all there! [link]

Here’s what’s coming up in June, magical friends:

Striking Down Diggory has a new release coming out today! [link]

If Hagrid is your personal hero, check out the Harry Potter DIY dragon eggs event in Oakwood, IL on June 4th. [link]

Brooklyn, NY is taking the opportunity to raise some money for a local queer shelter on June 5th with the “FU JK: Harry Potter Trivia” event. [link]

This one’s truly magical: a guinea pig sanctuary is having a “Houses of Harry Potter” event in Salisbury, MA. I hope the guinea pigs dress up. [link]

Someone’s going to die on June 11 in Tavares, FL. Luckily, it’s at a “Hilarious Harry Potter Murder Mystery,” so I imagine they’ll get better. [link]

If you’re in Halifax on the 21st you should check out the Harry Potter themed rave at Gus’s Pub. [link]

Dream Quaffle has another exciting album coming out on the 28th titled “Ships Ahoy!” [link]

And most importantly, you still have time to submit to the Sampler! So write a silly ditty—maybe a 30-second handwashing reminder?–and submit it! [link]

As for last month,

La Gazette Du Sorcier did a podcast interview with Barnabas Cuffe. [link]

and

And Eyes Like Mine made all their music free to download on BandCamp. [link]

Links to all these events can be found in the transcript, and even more events are on the Potterhead Calendar page of the website.

The final music break for this episode begins with “My Dad is Rich” from Draco and the Malfoys.

~*~

That was Draco and the Malfoys with “My Dad is Rich,” Split Seven Ways singing “Sectumsempra” [lyrics], and N.E.W.T.s and “Mother Forgive Me” [lyrics].

And that’s it for this episode! I’m so excited about everything we’ve got going on. I hope I’ll see you at some of it! (Come to my show!)

Congratulations to Autumn for being the first to get episode 95’s theme of book 5!
