Episode 101: Dobby, Bang Your Head

Hello magical friends and welcome to episode 101 of WZRD Radio! I’m your hostwitch Bess and since it’s now August, I’m ready to start celebrating my birthday. (My family motto is “celebrate all the things.”) One of the ways I’m doing that is by officially adding another member to the WZRD team! They’ll be introducing themselves after this music break, so stay tuned!

We’re kicking things off with Anvil and the Hints and “Farewell, My Friend.”

~*~

That was “Farewell, My Friend” by Anvil and the Hints [lyrics], MC Kreacher with “House Elf 4 Life” [lyrics], Draco and the Malfoys singing “Dobby,” and Harry and the Potters with “The Fallen” [lyrics].

And now for that special announcement!

Hello magical friends! This is Dream Quaffle, or DQ, if you prefer. I’ve been a proud member of the wizard rock community for some time now and your hostwitch Bess and I have decided that I should take on a new roll. So I have great pleasure and pride in announcing that, effective immediately, I have taken up the post of Special Correspondent in the Field for WZRD Radio. What this means is, since it seems like I do a fair amount of traveling and your hostwitch has told me that I have a certain way of connecting with people, we thought it would be good to use that to help enhance the podcast. So whenever I am able, I will be traveling to wizard rock events here and there and providing live on-the-ground coverage for WZRD Radio. After all, it’s like our dear hostwitch says: without our wizard rockers, we wouldn’t be here. Now, let’s get back to the music.

I am so thrilled to have Geoff spreading their magic, their music, and the joy of wizard rock. If you see them out and about, say hi!

Here’s Slytherin Soundtrack to open our next set of songs with their “House Elf Intermezzo.”

~*~

That was “House Elf Intermezzo” by Slytherin Soundtrack, Muggle Snuggle’s “Winky’s Hangover” [lyrics], “Sock in the Book” by Dobby and the House Elves, and Room of Whateva’s “Sock” [lyrics].

Happy August, magical friends!

Here are some of the fandom things you can check out this month:

If you’ve got an interesting perspective on Harry Potter and its influence, the Harry Potter Academic Conference has put out their call for presentations. Even if you’re not going to submit, you should check out, because it sounds very engaging. [link]

Check out this cookie decorating party on August 24, hosted by Paula’s Zzerts in Canton, GA. [link]

August 29-Sept 2 is DragonCon in Atlanta, GA! You can see a whole host of wrock friends perform, including the Blibbering Humdingers, Hawthorn & Holly, and the Faithful Sidekicks. [link]

Serena is gauging interest in a Harry Potter Classical Music fanworks fest, hopefully to be run some time next year: [link]

August 31st, Feather Hills Vineyard and Winery is having a “Harry Potter Day,” complete with quidditch pong and a Triwizard Tournament. [link]

And don’t forget to submit something to the Sampler! How about a collection of Harry Potter puns? [link]

Speaking of things to submit to, The Cruciatus Curse is putting together a spooky, scary Halloween themed comp! You’ve got until the end of the month to submit your spine-chilling track. [link]

As for last month, the mysterious Slytherin released “Has Only Just Begun.” [link]

And I wanted to share an article that was written about wizard rock at this year’s LeakyCon. For those of us that didn’t attend, it’s a little peek into the gathering. [link]

Here’s that last bit of music, starting with “House Elf Fashion Fix” by Gadding with Ghouls.

~*~

That was “House Elf Fashion Fix” by Gadding With Ghouls [lyrics], The House-Elf Tavern Choir singing “Pour Me a Butterbeer” [lyrics]. “Excuse Me” by The Hermione Crookshanks Experience [lyrics], and “Dobby, Bang Your Head” by The Blibbering Humdingers.

And another episode comes to a close. I hope you had fun with this one; I did!
