Hello magical friends, and welcome to episode 122 of WZRD Radio! I’m your hostwitch Bess and I hope you’re all having just the best Summer! Of! Fun!
While you’re planning your next adventure, here’s some music to soundtrack your plans.
First up is Slytherin Soundtrack and “Frank and Alice.”
~*~
That was “Frank and Alice” by Slytherin Soundtrack [lyrics], Romilda Vane and the Chocolate Cauldrons with “Crucio,” and Witch Without a Cause and “Cruciatus.”
And now let’s check in with that gem among wixen, our Special Correspondent in the Field.
ScitF: Greetings and salutations to everyone in the Wizard Rock Nation. This is Special Correspondent in the Field DQ with another Friends of Wrock segment just for you. Today we are highlighting an up-and-comer in the world of content creation and wizard rock. We are talking about Abby E. of Rad Fox Art, but you may know them from their YouTuber name, Enter The Phantom. When asked how long they’ve been creating, Abby said they’ve been on Etsy for a few years, but they uploaded their first video essay a year ago this July. In terms of favorite products on the art side of things, Abby loves doing art commissions of people with their favorite characters. It’s just wholesome and fun. ANd video-wise, anything where they can talk about a ridiculous subject for an hour works just fine for them. When asked if they have any particularly fun or fond memories or travel stories related to their business, Abby said they did meet someone wearing one of their Warrior Cats presidential campaign shirts at a bookstore event.
They were dressed as a campaigner complete with a sign, and felt a lot less out of place among all the middle schoolers when they recognized another 26-year-old in a “Firestar ’03” shirt they had designed. Abby also has this advice for people who are just starting out. “If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing, well hold yourself to the same standard you would as if you were already wildly successful in whatever your chosen field is. People will notice. At the same time, balance that high standard with authenticity. You are too cool not to be as much of yourself as you can be.” If you’d like to see more of what Abby has to offer, you can find them on Etsy at Rad Fox Art, and they’ve got a few more options on TeePublic under the same name. Or if you’re social media savvy, you can find them on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and pretty much everywhere else at Enter the Phantom.
If you’d like to see Abby IRL, they will be at EnchantiCon in St. Louis this August, Fan Fest in Dallas in October, and HarmonyCon in Dallas in February, 2026. Abby says, quote, “I’m easy to spot because I have exactly one cosplay I’m becoming rapidly well known for, and if you don’t see it, you’ll hear it.” This correspondent can assure the public this is 100% accurate and you may just want to keep an eye out for Abby on the Wizard Rock front as well. You never know who’s going to turn up there. This is Special Correspondent in the Field, DQ, saying thank you, Abby, for being a Friend of Wizard Rock.
Thank you so much, DQ, for that report. I look forward to learning more about our friends in the future.
How about some more music? This is “Crucio!” from Bella and Le Strangers.
~*~
That break started with “Crucio!” from Bella and Le Strangers [lyrics], NEWTs and her “Sweet Wrappers” [lyrics], and The Cruciatus Curse and “Crucio (Bow Before Me).”
It’s July, a big month in our fandom. Here are just a few of the ways you can connect with other Harry Potter fans. And if none of these are located conveniently to you, why not start your own?
First, if you’ve ever attended MISTI*Con, you probably met Kat El. She’s in need of a little help right now, so I’ve included a link to her fundraiser in the transcript. [link]
If you want to see Tonks and the Aurors perform—and you definitely want to seen Tonks and the Aurors perform—you have two chances this month! First is July 15th in Grand Blanc, MI and the second is on July 26th in Orion Township, MI. [link] [link]
If you’re around Chicago, IL on July 19th, message the Bookish Hufflepuff on Discord to join her wizard rock house party!
If you’re closer to Chesterfield, VA on the 19th, there’s a Great Feast happening, with cosplay encouraged. [link]
July 26th is the Weekend of Wizardry in Columbus, IN, which sounds like it’s going to be magical. [link]
The weekend of the 25th – 27th is also Wizarding Weekend as hosted by SPEWW in Portland, OR. [link]
The 25th – 27th is a busy weekend, because it also includes Magic Meeting in Buenos Aires! [link]
And Thursday the 31st is a perfect day to learn how to knit a chunky house blanket in Alliance, OH. [link]
How about some things you can do from the comfort of your own home?
The Sampler’s deadline has been extended to July 15th, so you still have time to get a song in! [link]
And the Just Joy Comp is open for another month. [link]
If you’re more of a writer or an artist, how about the Summer! Of! Fun! Zine? [link]
And this month’s Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Jam theme is “Discovery.” [link]
Take some pictures! Write a poem! Hum a ditty! Just get out there and have some fun. That’s what Summer! Of! Fun! is all about.
All these events and more are linked in the Potterhead Calendar on the WZRD website.
While you’re planning your photoshoot, here’s some more music. This is Wingardium Leviosa and “Crucio.”
~*~
That was “Crucio” from Wingardium Leviosa [lyrics], The Honeydukes Cellar Gang and “Malfoy Manor [lyrics], and we finished off with The House of Black and “Bubble Gum Wrappers.”
And that’s it for this episode! I hope you’re all having a wonderful Summer! Of! Fun!
Until next time, magical friends: Lovely day.
