Episode 130: Nevertheless, I Persisted

Hello magical friends, and welcome to episode 130 of WZRD Radio. I’m your hostwitch Bess and I’m so excited people are playing the theme guessing game again! So congratulations to James and Celia, who managed to guess episode 128’s theme of “Umbridge” at almost the same time!

Let’s get to this month’s themed music! Our first song is “The Lavatory Song” from the 8th Horcrux.

~*~

We kicked off this month with “The Lavatory Song” by The 8th Horcrux [lyrics], Gred & Forge’s “Fred, George, & Myrtle,” The Moaning Myrtles singing “And Then I Died” [lyrics], and “Crush on Moaning Myrtle” by The Grindylows.

And now it’s time for another report from that wandering wix, our Special Correspondent in the Field, DQ!

ScitF: Good evening, wizard rock fans. This is Special Correspondent in the Field DQ with a very special and very spooky Halloween themed presentation just for you. As you may have heard, unless you have taken a refuge at the bottom of a garden pond or somewhere similar, Striking Down Diggory and I have put together a Halloween themed compilation of wizard rock called the Wizard Rock Super Awesome Electronic Masquerade Ball Extravaganza and we decided to open up submissions to more than just music. In fact, some of our wizard rock friends sent us chilling tales of their own invention, and we would like to present a selection from one of them to you now. So listen if you dare to this preview from “Buried” by the Head Girl and keep an eye out for the Wizard Rock Super Awesome Electronic Masquerade Ball Extravaganza, [evil laughter, followed by coughing] available on Halloween night. Okay, roll the clip.

The Head Girl: More than anything he wishes things would just be quiet. In the world, in his head, anywhere. Maybe that’s why he came to the cemetery just outside Ottery St. Catchpole. Even though the idea of visiting the grave of his brother–“the grave would be yours, the brother you killed,” his mind hisses–makes him feel physically ill, at least quiet here. He walks through the headstones to the back of the cemetery where the newer graves are located. The dirt on Fred’s grave is still freshly turned over, and his stomach clench and heaves at the sight. “Should be you, should be you, should be you, should be you.” He staggers, overcome, and drops next to the grave head in his hand, trying to shut out the clamor. Part of him quails at getting graveyard dirt ground into his woolen suit but he’s too overwhelmed to move right now. Slowly, slowly, the jangling quiets, less of a deafening wave and more of a dull roar. He exhales lowering his hands. His fingers sting as they uncurl, and there are red crescent sin the palms of his hands from his nails. He’d known it would be bad, but for some reason, some arrogance, ignorance, he hadn’t thought it would be that bad that he’d be able to handle it better. It isn’t the first time he’s been very wrong lately.

Spine-tingling! Thank you DQ! Let’s get into another music break. Here are the Gryffindor Common Room Rejects and “Let’s Be Friends.”

~*~

That break started with the Gryffindor Common Room Rejects’ “Let’s Be Friends” [lyrics], “Hey Harry Potter” by The Butterbeer Experience [lyrics], Robert Shredford and “Moaning Myrtle,” and finally, Tom Riddle & Friends with “Come Out of the Toilet and Let’s Go to Bed.”
