Episode 45: Walking the World

Hello magical friends, and don’t touch that dial! I’m your hostwitch Bess, and this is still WZRD Radio, just with a new theme song courtesy of How Airplanes Fly. What do you think?

Welcome to WZRD’s second birthday! We’ve got lots of celebrating to do, so grab your favorite magical beverage and let’s get started!

First up is “Out in the Cold” by the Leaky Sisters.

~*~

That was “Out in the Cold” by the Leaky Sisters, Anvil and the Hints with “I Did Three Awesome Things,” and Toucan Dubh with “Muggle-Born Girl.”

WZRD’s anniversary wandoscope goes out to all my magical friends with larch wands.

Look at you with the hidden talents, larch wand! You may not even realize it yourself yet, but you’ve got the capacity to be exceptional. Larch wands are very picky about that sort of thing. Just look at your woodmate, Celestina Warbeck!

March is a tricky month with the weather never knowing what it wants to do with itself, and this March is even trickier for you, I’m afraid. It’s not a great time to make big changes or decisions so if you’ve got something pressing to decide, it wouldn’t hurt to get a second opinion from someone you trust. Maybe a walnut wand?

Here’s RiddleTM and “Ballad of Ron and Hermione.”

~*~

That was “Ballad of Ron and Hermione” by RiddleTM [lyrics], The Hermione Crookshanks Experience singing “So This is It” [lyrics], “Gamp’s Law of Transfiguration” by Anvil and the Hints, and “Krummy Canaries” by The Potterwatch Project.

It’s time to party! Pick any—or all—of these Potter events to celebrate.

On March 2nd, Lafourche Parish Public Library is hosting a virtual class teaching how to make a Harry Potter themed book tunnel. I’m assuming that’s related to a book nook and, as a result, am very excited. [link]

We’ve got another doctorate study on fandom! If you are an “ex-fan” of JK Rowling, get in touch with Paige Bradshaw. [link]

If you loved the ‘Pedia Comp Club last year, then I have excellent news about March 10th. The first comp of 2022, Alphabet Soup, is coming out! [link]

If you want to party in person and will be in Providence, RI on march 10th, Lauren Fairweather—and others—will be performing. [link]

Do you love the Netflix show Nailed It? Well Sweet Bites Baking School in Brandon, FL is hosting Harry Potter Nailed It on March 13th. [link]

The Gruppo di Lettura Lasciate Oscar Wilde is meeting, virtually, on March 14th to discuss the last Harry Potter book. [link]

Everyone’s favorite anachronistic wrock group, the Blibbering Humdingers, will be performing at MarsCon, which is happening in Williamsburg, VA from March 18 – 20th. [link]

And congratulations to Aguamenti, wrock’s own wizard rapper, who’s getting married on March 24th! Don’t forget to send them your best wishes.

As for everything I missed last month…

Aguamenti started a Kofi. It’s not a wedding registry, but you can use it like one! [link]

Ashley Hamel was interviewed by Where We Live on how the Harry Potter fandom is moving forward. [link]

Totally Knuts squeaked in under the wire to release “Bi Bi, Witch” on the last day of February. [link]

Dots and Lines created a fantastic new ad for WZRD’s radio station, shilling Totally Knuts Energy Drink. [link]

The Dolly Shakes released their Comp Club song from last year, in case you want a taste of the 2021 Comp Club. [link]

Lydia Katherine released “Always,” and I hope we hear more from them in the future! [link]

And Your Friendly Neighborhood Fangirl created a video essay about the history of wrock, for those of us that missed the first wave. [link]

Our final break starts with The Butterbeer Experience and “All I Need Is You.”

~*~

That was “All I Need is You” by The Butterbeer Experience [lyrics], “One of These Days, Ron” by Hawthorn & Holly [lyrics], and “Walking the World” by Kirstyn Hippe [lyrics].

And that’s it magical friends!

If you heard a song you like, check out the links in the transcript at WZRDRadioPod.com and grab a copy for yourself! We have to support our wizard rockers because without them, we wouldn’t be here.

To celebrate TWO WHOLE YEARS of magic and music, WZRD now has shirts! Designed by Riley’s Desk and screen printed by your hostwitch, they’re available now at Shop.WZRDRadioPod.com. Screen printing is my new favorite hobby, so I hope you like them!

You can tell me your guess for this week’s episode via Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, or TikTok. If you prefer to avoid social media, you can say hi in the comments on the transcript, or email me at WZRDRadioPod@gmail.com. As an extra-special second birthday gift, Swish and Flick are letting me give away physical copies of their albums In the House of Slytherin and With Love and Poison to the first guessers. How cool is that?

Until next time, magical friends: A very happy birthday to yeh!
