Episode 59: Nerve

Hello magical friends, and welcome to episode 59 of WZRD Radio! I’m your hostwitch Bess, and remember: if the water is running away from you, you run away from the water. (I might be experiencing a hurricane as we speak.)

But never fear! The show must go on. Here’s some music to enjoy while I stay indoors and admire the wind.

This is Hawthorn and Holly “At The End of the Night.”

That was “At The End of the Night” by Hawthorn and Holly [lyrics], and How Airplanes Fly with “That Goat Doesn’t Love You.”

This month’s wandoscope is for magical friends who carry wands of prickly ash.

You share wand wood with one of the founder of Ilvermorny, pricky ash. You are also prone to ‘nervous energy,’ but grow strong under pressure.

We’re in a season of transition, and for you that means a certain amount of uncertainty. Liminal stages are hard, especially when you’re a more anxious wix. I think you’ll probably benefit from spending a certain time outside yourself—maybe helping a friend, maybe just go outside and sit somewhere new. Phoenix feathers tend to be particularly good at this sort of self-check in, if you need some help.

Our next block of music begins with Tonks and the Aurors and “The Mission.”

~*~

That was Tonks and the Aurors with “The Mission,” “Scrape the Sky” by Draco and the Malfoys, and “I’m Made of Wands” by The Whomping Willows.

It’s spooky month! I hope you’re ready for all these scary events.

Today, October 1st, there’s a Harry Potter tea in the Guernsey Isles that’s raising money for a local hospice. [link]

There’s going to be a lecture on using Harry Potter in the English classroom on October 13th in Iceland, which is cool. [link]

If you’re in Virginia on October 15th, check out the annual Warrenton Wizard Walk in Warrenton! [link]

October 14th-16th is LeakyCon Denver! Your hostwitch won’t be there, but Dream Quaffle, Draco and the Malfoys, The Weirdos are Out, and The Whomping Willows all will be! [link]

The New York Group That Shall Not Be Named is putting on a Wizard Retreat Weekend in Chester, CT October 21-23! [link]

Also October 21st and 22nd is the Harry Potter Academic Conference at Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, PA. [link]

Potterwatch is hosting a Halloween-themed Beer Choir in San Diego, CA on October 26, so go check it out if you’re in the area! [link]

There’s going to be a Harry Potter Comedy Murder Mystery on October 29th in Derbyshire in the UK, which sounds delightful. [link]

And as for music from last month…

James and the Marauder’s Map released a demo. [link]

The annual Wrock Sampler came out. [link]

Madam Pince and the Librarians unearthed a live 2009 performance and released it. [link]

The third album of this year’s Pedia Comp Club was released! [link]

And magical friends, my heart is so full. Your hostwitch’s Hufflebestie organized a secret Ravenclaw themed album for my birthday. We finally saw each other last month, and now it’s available for everyone! [link]

The final music break begins with The Weirdos Are Out and “Firework.”

~*~

That was “Firework” by The Weirdos Are Out, Dream Quaffle singing “Rowena,” and Lauren Fairweather with “Nerve” [lyrics].

And this is the end of the episode! I hope you’re all having beautiful weather.
