Episode 86: Last Bagmas

(I forgot to mention it in the episode, but…
The third volume of WZRD’s annual zine, The Wizard Rocker, is now available in the WZRD shop [https://www.etsy.com/shop/WZRDRadioPod]. Volumes 1 and 2 are back again as well! They’re only here for December, so grab ’em if you want ’em!)

Hello magical friends, and welcome to episode 86 of WZRD Radio. I’m your hostwitch Bess, and I hope you’re having a lovely, stress-free holiday season so far.

We begin this episode, as we do every year, with the traditional playing of Muggle Mike’s “A Very Severus Christmas.”

~*~

That was, of course, “A Very Severus Christmas” by Muggle Mike, Harry and the Potters with “Hedwig is Coming to Town,” and “I Want a Magic Hippogriff for Christmas” by Hallows or Horcruxes.

I checked in with the Molly Weasley list of wand sayings, and for this month’s wandoscope was given this: “He who has furthest to go will travel fastest with willow.”

Make of that what you will, willow wand carriers. You also share your wandwood with Lily Evans and Ron Weasley, so that’s nice.

Your wandwood is considered rare and strongly associated with healing.

While I always consider December a time of hunkering down and letting my leaves drop, metaphorically, for you this month seems to be a bit more active. You’ve been learning and gathering into yourself, and now you’re ready to build the base of your newest plans and priorities. I don’t know what they are, but you really have a good grasp of them and I can’t wait to see what you create.

The next music break begins with “Christmas at Hogwarts” by Ginny and the Weasleys.

~*~

You just heard “Christmas at Hogwarts” by Ginny and the Weasleys [lyrics], MC Phat Friar and “Wizard Christmas Party,” and Gadding with Ghouls singing “Magic’s Here (for Christmas Day)” [lyrics].

December is always a time of celebration, and in fandom it’s no different. Here are a few of our upcoming events:

Abruzzo, Italy is hosting “Il Villaggio di Harry Potter” the 7th through the 9th. They’re promising spells, experiments, and more. [link]

There’s going to be a “Harry’s Magical Fest” in Sonora, Mexico on December 9th with music, quidditch, and the Latin American voice of Harry! [link]

If you’re in Louisville, KY on December 10th, consider dropping by A Wizard’s Christmas: Brewfest. There with magical drinks and, of course, dancing. [link]

December 16th is the 2023 Yule Ball in Portland, OR, with a Triwizard Tournament in the weeks leading up! [link]

December 16th will also see a “Harry Potter Dinner” in Irwin, PA, with an interactive play! [link]

Jacksonville, FL is having a Harry Potter themed baking class on December 19th, where you’ll learn the secret to Mrs. Weasley’s fudge, among other recipes. [link]

As for what I missed last month…

The Israeli podcast Potter released heart-wrenching song. [link]

Links to all these events and more can be found on the Potterhead Calendar page on the WZRD website.

Our final music break of 2023 begins with Jessie and the Curse Breakers and “Dobby’s Christmas Wish.”

~*~

That was “Dobby’s Christmas Wish” by Jessie and the Curse Breakers, “A Snow Falls Soft” from Hawthorn and Holly [lyrics], Muggle Snuggle with “O Come O Come to Voldemort,” and “Last Bagmas” by Ludo Bagman and the Trash.

And another year of WZRD comes to a close. I’m so glad we spent it together, and I can’t wait to start fresh in January. See you then!
