Hello magical friends, and welcome to the first episode of 2025! I can’t wait to see what we do this year.
We’re starting off this year strong, with “Felix Felicis” from Hawthorn & Holly, so how about we kick it off?
~*~
That was Hawthorn & Holly with “Felix Felicis” [lyrics], “The Lightning Struck Tower” from RiddleTM [lyrics], and “Cissy Stop Being Ridiculous” by Bella and Le Strangers.
Let’s start off the new year with a shout-out to the Community Wrock Fund! I know I run it, but it’s my amazing patrons—and everyone who’s donated to it—that make it possible!
The CWF is the successor to Yes All Witches and is a tiny grant program designed to help wrockers meet their goals, whether that’s “I’m just starting out and need a guitar” or “I’ve been invited to a convention but I can’t afford airfare!”
Awards are made on a rolling basis so anyone can apply at any time (and donations work the same way too!)
We had our first award last year and I’m looking forward to giving out so many more, so encourage your wizard rocker friends to apply! I’ll include the link in the transcript. [link]
While you do that, here’s our next music set! Slytherin Soundtrack starts us off, with “Old Sluggy.”
~*~
You just heard “Old Sluggy” by Slytherin Soundtrack [lyrics], Ginny and the Weasleys singing “Dean Don’t Push Me” [lyrics], and “Felix Felicis” by Harry and the Potters.
It’s January and you know what that means! Time to start planning your wizard rock events for the year. Why not start with these?
DragonCon’s performer application is open and will be through March! So get applying, wizard rockers. [link]
Potted Potter is on the move! You can catch this show from Jan 7-12 in Cleveland, OH [link] AND January 10-12 in Dallas, TX. [link]
Following the latest trends, there’s going to be a Harry (and Ron, Hagrid, Hermione, etc) look-alike competition in Chicago, IL on January 11! [link]
Canterbury Castle in Lake Orion, MI is hosting a Harry Potter Dinner in the Castle January 18 and 19th, in case you want to recreate your Hogwarts Feast dreams. [link]
January 17 has a Harry Potter- themed cooking class in Tampa, FL. It’s four courses, like a proper Great Hall feast. [link]
If you’re not ready for the holiday party to end, then Campbell, OH has your back! On January 18th they’re hosting a Harry Potter Yule Ball with live music and some fancy-sounding feasting. [link]
January 25th will see a “Harry Potter Party” in Saskatchewan, Canada with intruiguing “activities” and “all things Harry Potter” promised. [link]
As for what I missed last month…
Ludo Bagman gave us the fifth volume of A Very Merry Bagmas. [link]
and
You can catch the replay of the 2024 Yule Ball on YouTube anytime. [link]
Links to those events, and a few more, can be found on the Potterhead Calendar page of the WZRD website.
While you go pick your favorites, here’s Dots & Lines with “Odo the Hero.”
~*~
That was Dots & Lines singing the famous ballad of “Odo the Hero” [lyrics], “Dumbledore and the Cave” by Kingsley & the Shacklebolts, followed by “no dark mark, no crime” from Hogwarts Therapist [lyrics].
And this is the end of our first episode of the year! Thanks for ringing it in with me.
If you heard your new favorite song, go to the transcript at WZRDRadioPod.com, follow the link, and buy yourself a copy. You’ll get a great new addition to your music collection and a wizard rocker will know they’ve got a fan. And you know what I always say: without our wizard rockers, we wouldn’t be here.
You can support WZRD and the Community Wrock Fund by joining the Patreon at Patreon.com/WZRDRadioPod. There are two, five, and ten dollar tiers that all get the same perks, including early episodes and bonus content, and support the Fund in helping our wizard rockers get their music out there.
You can still guess this episode’s theme on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, or TikTok at WZRDRadioPod. You can also get in touch by commenting on the transcript or emailing me at WZRDRadioPod@gmail.com.
Until next time, magical friends: Hope you’re well.
