Episode 64: It’s Real For Us

Hello magical friends, and welcome to the first WZRD Radio episode of 2023! I’m your hostwitch Bess and I’m hoping you all have an exciting, but fully manageable, year ahead of you.

I’d like to say a special shout-out to my magical friend Geoff for this episode’s playlist! It does mean they can’t guess today’s theme with everyone else, but I appreciate that sacrifice.

Now, to fortify us for this new year, here’s some music!

We’re kicking off with The Butterbeer Experience and “The Prince’s Tale.”

~*~

That was “The Prince’s Tale” by The Butterbeer Experience [lyrics], “Dear Lily,” from Snape Plays Guitar, and Gadding with Ghouls singing “Winner Takes All” [lyrics].

Our first wandoscope of the year goes to magical friends who carry wands of reed.

You carry an unusual wood, reed wand. Not many folks share it with you. Maybe that’s why people tend to listen when you speak, or maybe it’s because you’re such a fiercely protective friend. You tend to be sure of who you are, and have a talent for divination type things.

You’re usually so collected, reed wand, perhaps it’s no wonder you’re currently feeling a little unsettled. It’s the right time of year, after all, for self-reflection. Take it easy on yourself and remember you don’t have to be perfect. You can always try your best, but sometimes your best is 10%, and sometimes it’s 80%, and that’s normal. Just take care of yourself, and things will settle up again.

Our next music break begins with “I Will Miss You” by Split Seven Ways.

~*~

That was Split Seven Ways with “I Will Miss You” [lyrics], “Look at Me” by RiddleTM [lyrics], and “Lily’s Worst Memory” from The Blibbering Humdingers.

I’ve just updated the Potterhead Calendar, magical friends, and you will NOT believe how many amazing fandom events there are going on! And in so many different countries! So go check that out.

But here’s a small sampling of them:

The Blibbering Humdingers will be at GAFilk January 6-8 in Atlanta, Ga. [link]

Runcible Games in Rolla, MO is hosting a Yule Ball on January 8th with butterbeer, games, and dancing. [link]

An Auckland, New Zealand library is having a Harry Potter Party on the 9th, where you can make your own wand and play quidditch. [link]

If you’re into slime, Oconee Library in Watkinsville, GA is having a Harry Potter Slime class January 20th. [link]

Also on the 20th, there’s a fabulous sounding Harry Potter festival happening in Charlotte, MI. [link]

If you’re feeling intellectual and around Unna, Germany on the 21st, there’s a lecture on Harry Potter happening, in English. [link]

The Hayloft in Hastings, MN is hosting your hostwitch’s dream event on the 21st – Harry Potter Goat Yoga. Someone attend and send me pictures. [link]

And most importantly, Bisexual Harry’s first album is coming out on January 5th, so keep an eye on that because you know it’s going to be amazing.

As for what I missed last month…

Ludo Bagman and the Trash gave us the fourth volume of their brilliant “A Very Merry Bagmas” album series. [link]

Head Boy gave us a wonderful debut album. [link]

The final Pedia Comp Club album came out. It’s been an incredible ride, magical friends.

And Jake Eyre Owling dropped “All Our Christmas Trees Are Dying.” [link]

All the event links, and so many more, can be found on the Potterhead Calendar on the website.

Here’s our last bit of music, beginning with Dream Quaffle and “Chapter 33.”

~*~

That was Dream Quaffle and “Chapter 33” [lyrics], The First Task is Dragons with “Loved Like Lily,” and “It’s Real For Us” from Lauren Fairweather [lyrics].

And our year-opening episode comes to a close.
