Episode 66: Get Me To An Apothecary

Hello magical friends, and welcome to episode 66 of WZRD Radio. I’m your hostwitch Bess, and I hope you are all doing brilliantly. Here at the hostwitch house, we’re excited to watch the days getting incrementally longer.

I’m sure you’re eager to get started, so without further ado, here’s MC Gryf and “Chocolate Cauldrons of Love.”

~*~

That was “Chocolate Cauldrons of Love” by MC Gryf, Luna Wants a Longbottom singing “Tribute to Romilda Vane,” and Sue and the Hufflepuffs with “Romilda, You’re So Vane.”

This month’s wandoscope is for magical friends who carry wands of rosewood.

You share a wand wood with Fleur Delacour, magical friend, and I think that’s pretty cool. You are also highly intuitive and charismatic, which is probably why people are so drawn to you.

February is a short month, rosewood wand, which makes it a great time to try out something you’ve been curious about, but haven’t found the space for. Maybe it’s a new hobby, or a commitment to new experiences. I know a lot of dragon heartstring cores are considering a change right about now, so if you need a restaurant-tasting buddy or someone to wind the string for your new fiber craft, ask one of them. Even if you don’t stick with whatever it is, I think you’ll learn a lot and enjoy having done something just for yourself.

Our next set of songs begins with Slytherin Soundtrack and “Dear Harry.”

~*~

That was “Dear Harry,” by Slytherin Soundtrack, “Romilda” by The Blibbering Humdingers, and Hawthorn and Holly singing “You’re So Vane” [lyrics].

I know you’re excited to jump into this month’s events, so here’s what we’ve got going on!

Your hostwitch’s dear friend Sam is collecting music for the MISTI-Con charity auction. If you’re a wizard rocker who wants to be included, you can get in touch with him in the Wizard Rock Revival Group on Facebook, or email him. I’ll include his address in this transcript. [link]

February 3rd is a BandCamp Friday, so mark your calendars! It’s the perfect day to support your favorite wizard rockers.

Coming on February 5th, Charlotte, NC is hosting something intriguingly called “Muggle Market: Love and Plunder.” It sounds like a nerdy craft fair, and you might even be able to find some of Hawthorn & Holly if you look hard! [link]

If, on the other hand, you’re in Bangalore, India on the 5th, Lahe Lahe is hosting a Harry Potter Discussion. [link]

And on the 11th, the Concorde Club in the UK is hosting a “Harry Potter Tribute Murder Mystery Experience,” which I think just means they’ll be recreating a normal year at Hogwarts during Harry’s time there. [link]

Potted Potter, a show your hostwitch has never seen but very much hopes to one day, will be playing most of the month in Minneapolis, MN. [link]

Bisexual Harry is putting together a comp! They’re calling it “How Weird Can You Get?” and it’s the perfect place to try something silly and new, because you’ll be in amazing company. Submissions are due by March 31st, so you have lots of time. If you’ve got questions, you can find them around the Wizard Rock Discord, the Wizard Rock Revival FB group, or you can email them at the link in the transcript. [link]

Yes All Witches is back! If you’re a wizard rocker looking for some help getting into the genre, please do apply! You get advice and some funding to help with everything from website hosting to instrument purchases to merch making. Applications are open through February 28th. [link]

As for what I missed last month…

Technically it was last year, but Totally Knuts released “Queering Up,” the final album in their series dedicated to queering every single HP character. [link]

Bisexual Harry released “Yer Bisexual, Harry,” a full album of brilliance. [link]

And Pottorhead released a very clever album called “2023,” which contains 20 songs that are 23 seconds each. [link]

Links to all the events listed here, and more, can be found on the WZRD Radio website on the Potterhead Calendar.

Our last music break begins with Luna (Not) Lovegood and “Romilda Vane.”

~*~

That was “Romilda Vane” by Luna (Not) Lovegood, The 8th Horcrux and “Romilda,” “Vane Attempt” by Love Wrocks, and Roonil Wazlib singing “Get Me To An Apothecary” [lyrics].

And that’s the end of our show! I hope you enjoyed it.

Don’t forget! You can get your very own copy of all the songs you heard today by following the links in the transcript at WZRDRadioPod.com. It’s the easiest way to support your favorite wizard rockers and without them, we wouldn’t be here.

If you want discounts on WZRD merch, episodes a day early, and the ability to ask your favorite wrockers what their favorite candy is, you can join the WZRD Radio Patreon at Patreon.com/WZRDRadioPod. It’s two muggle dollars a month and also supports the Yes All Witches grant in their quest to provide microgrants and mentorship to queer and BIPoC wizard rockers.

As always, you can get more WZRD/hostwitch content on all the social media platforms, including TwitterInstagramFacebook, and TikTok at WZRDRadioPod. You can also comment on the transcript or email me at WZRDRadioPod@gmail.com, if social media’s not your thing but you still want to say hi.

Until next time, magical friends: That’s the spirit, dear.
