Hello magical friends, and welcome to episode 68, WZRD Radio’s third birthday! I’m your hostwitch Bess, and I’m so happy we’re still together three years in.
It’s time for the party, so of course I brought treats!
Here’s “Hermione’s Favorite Food” by Harry and the Potters.
~*~
That was “Hermione’s Favorite Food” by Harry and the Potters, Muggle Snuggle and “Quarter Grapefruit,” “Wizard Rock Cake” by the Bandon Banshees and “Fizzing Whizbees” sung by Hawthorn and Holly.
WZRD is sharing our birthday, this year, with magical friends who carry wands of rowan.
Old wixen’s tales aren’t kind to you, rowan. “Rowan gossips, chestnut drones, ash is stubborn, hazel moans?” Honestly, they sound jealous, because you are awesome. Your wand is extra good at defensive charms and particularly protective, and you yourself are fairly clear-headed and kind. You’re basically Professor Flitwick, including the dueling prowess.
Everything is a go this month, rowan wand! You are perfectly placed to Do The Thing. So go seize the day! And when you start to doubt yourself, as we all do, don’t forget that you’re not alone. Your kind heart has no shortage of friends, so don’t be afraid to ask for reassurance when you need it. If you’re especially concerned, check in with a unicorn hair—you know they won’t lie to you. But really? You’ve got this.
The next music break begins with Lily and James and “Mmm Mmm Mmm.”
~*~
You just heard “Mmm Mmm Mmm” by Lily and James, Madam Pince and the Librarians with “If All The Raindrops…,” and “Honeydukes” by Justin Finch-Fletchley and the Sugar Quills.
March is an exciting month in wizard rock, magical friends!
Here are some of the ways you can celebrate WZRD’s third birthday:
Literary Ink is this weekend, March 3-5th in Chattanooga, TN with performances by Draco and the Malfoys, Tonks and the Aurors, and Hawthorn and Holly! [link]
Also this weekend, the Blibbering Humdingers are doing a virtual show! Sunday March 5th, on their Facebook page. [link]
March 10-11 is Festival of the Living Room! Check it out or sign up—and there will be more of these throughout the year. [link]
The Weirdos Are Out is performing at WhimsyCon on March 31st in Denver, CO. [link]
And the “How Weird Can You Get!?” comp is still open for submissions through the end of the month! It’s time to go wild, so get your files in to Bisexual Harry at the link in the transcript. [link]
If you’re in New Mexico on Friday the 24th, why not check out San Juan College’s “AstroFriday: The Astronomy of Harry Potter?” [link]
March 31st is also the deadline to apply to be a performer at DragonCon for all you wizard rockers out there. [link]
And just for fun, this month’s Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Jam theme over on the ‘Pedia is “Protest,” so why not go create something for that? It doesn’t have to be music! [link]
All these events, and more, can be found on the Potterhead Calendar on the website.
While you check that out, I’ll play some more music.
Here’s Slytherin Soundtrack and “One More Butterbeer.”
~*~
That was “One More Butterbeer” by Slytherin Soundtrack, The Hungry Hungry Hippogriffs with “Bertie Bott’s Beans,” Autumn Brooke singing “Chocolate Frogs,” and “Key to Ron’s Heart” by Creevey Crisis.
And this is the end of our third anniversary episode, which means it’s time for the special announcements.
First of all: yes, this is a themed episode and I do hope you still guess the themes! But I am stopping giving out albums, at least for now. It ended up being a little too much for me to keep track of, I’m sorry.
On the more exciting side, I’ve got some birthday gifts planned for you all! We’re going to have two giveaways this month—so keep your eye on WZRD’s social media!
And, as always, we’ll have a bonus episode for WZRD listeners as well as a special one just for WZRD’s patrons. They’re already recorded, and I think you’re really going to enjoy them.
Don’t forget! You can get your very own copy of all the songs you heard today by following the links in the transcript at WZRDRadioPod.com. It’s the easiest way to support your favorite wizard rockers and without them, we wouldn’t be here.
If you want discounts on WZRD merch, episodes a day early, and the ability to ask your favorite wrockers what their favorite candy is, you can join the WZRD Radio Patreon at Patreon.com/WZRDRadioPod. It’s two muggle dollars a month and also supports the Yes All Witches grant in their quest to provide microgrants and mentorship to queer and BIPoC wizard rockers.
As always, you can get more WZRD/hostwitch content on all the social media platforms, including Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok at WZRDRadioPod. You can also comment on the transcript or email me at WZRDRadioPod@gmail.com, if social media’s not your thing but you still want to say hi.
Until next time, magical friends: Many happy returns.
